Delphi For Visual Studio?

The old order changeth...?
Friday 1 December 2006.

According to the French language technology journal, Le Monde Informatique, Code Gear (the newly formed company which will henceforth develop the Borland programming languages), plans to migrate Delphi into Visual Studio.

This, says the journal, signals the end of the Borland developer Studio as a standalone IDE (“ l’arręt de Delphi en tant qu’IDE autonome”). Delphi will continue to target both Win32 and .NET and will also support its Visual Class Library (VCL).

Update: (2nd Dec’ 06) Code Gear denies the above, saying that the company does not plan to move its development tools to VS. So where did the story originate? I shall watch developments keenly...

The French article is totally false. We have no such plans.

In fact, Huw, if you would simply remove this posting altogether, that would be great.

Thanks for the info, Nick. I’ll leave ths post here as I think the story about this false report is still newsworthy. Which is to say that I have read the original Le Monde Informatique article and the author states quite categorically that Code Gear plans to move from BDS to Visual Studio. The amount of detail in the article clearly shows that this was not just a ’slip of the tongue’ on the part of the writer. It is stated as definitive. While I fully accept the assurances of all the Code Gear people that the story is untrue, I am nevertheless intrigued to know how such a detailed story ever came to be published in the first place. In other words, this story is no longer so much about Code Gear as about Le Monde Informatique.

However, to ensure that Bitwise readers are in no doubt about this, I will post a clarification.

      best wishes

According to Nick Hodges, from CodeGear, this is simply plain wrong:

"Okay, I’ll be clear. This is not true. We have no such plans. We are not even contemplating such a thing. We aren’t doing it. It’s not happening. Not gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent."
