From time to time, bitwise magazine gives an award to a product or web site which has particularly impressed us. We don't necessarily give an award immediately after publishing a review. Often a product can only be properly assessed after using it over a prolonged period. That is why we may sometimes give awards months after a product was first reviewed. For a list of products and web sites which have won awards see The Bitwise Hall of Fame. If you have won an award and wish to use a logo or graphic in your promotional material or on your web site, see our page of Award Logos and Banners.

Product Awards

We have just two product awards. The bitwise Recommended Award is the award given to products that we feel are either best in their class or offer exceptionally good value. The Editor's Choice is an additional award which we may occasionally give to products that offer 'something special'.

The bitwise Recommended Award is given to products which we consider to be top of their class. They may be the most complete and satisfactory products in their field. Or they may provide outstanding value to the buyer. These are products which we ourselves would choose to work with.

The Editor's Choice Award is given to products which have 'something special' about them. They may be faster, more elegant or more innovative than rival products. Or they may have some particular quality or specialisation that sets them apart. Think of it as our 'award of special merit'.

Please note that these two awards should not be seen as 'first' and 'second'. The Editor's Choice is given to products that have some special or remarkable quality even when those products may not be the best choice for the greatest number of users. The bitwise Recommended Award is given to products which are particularly fine examples of their type and may frequently have broader appeal than Editor's Choice products.

Web Site Awards

The bitwise Recommended Award for web sites is given according to similar criteria applied to recommended software and hardware. A Recommended site may be one of the most complete and satisfying sites in its field and may be an outstanding and valuable resource for Internet users.

The Best Web Site Award is given to sites which have some unique or outstanding feature which sets them apart from other sites. These sites may not be the largest or most comprehensive of their type but they do have one or more remarkable and features which particularly impressed us.

Once again, these two awards should not be seen as 'first' and 'second'. The Best Web Site award is given to sites that have some special or remarkable quality even when those sites may not appeal to the greatest number of users. The bitwise Recommended Award is given to sites which are particularly fine examples of their type and may frequently have broader appeal.

If your product or site has received a bitwise award, you may wish to choose a logo to display on your site or promotional material. We have a range of logo available HERE.
